Why I Love My Job

Growing up, I was never entirely certain what I wanted to be. I drifted from occupation to occupation, never really settling on a grand passion, and when I took the Needle-Sort occupational test, I was told my results showed that I would either make a good priest or a good bartender. Frankly, I don’t have the leg stamina or the knee stamina for either one, which is probably how I ended up where I am now – a buyer for the US Army Corps of Engineers. To quote the recruiting posters, it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure.

While there are days I bang my head against the desk, there are little moments that make my job worthwhile. For example, I just learned that I could buy a suicide restraint jacket through GSA Advantage for only $111.41… and that’s FOB Destination, so there’s no shipping charges involved.

Like I said, it’s the little things.

Saturday Morning Coming Down

There's nothing quite like the simple pleasures in life - waking up early on a Saturday, fully rested, sitting down at the computer with the Itunes set to shuffle, looking out at my back yard where the iris are just coming into bloom and the birds are calling back and forth, and just mindlessly drifting. Werepuppy and the Moose are still sleeping, and for this next 30 minutes, I can just drift along to Jimmy Buffett (or whoever happens to come up on the shuffle).
